This out-of-origin controversy and preference for this silver Labradors as dogs will be a controversial question for many years. Silver Labradors first appeared on the lake in the late 1950s, with their appearance known because a breeder should live in the United States. However, the guaranteed origin of the silver color will be uncertain, leading to disputes still taking place in the Labrador Retriever community.


Among those concerns is whether the obligatory silver color is the effect of crossbreeding with the same breed as another dog, such as the Weimaraner. This will lead to many questions about the purity of silver Labradors and their eligibility for similar certification. Most large canine clubs, including the American Kennel Club (AKC) and the British Similar Kennel Club, do not currently recognize the silver color Labrador Retrievers. Instead, Silver Labradors are either registered as chocolates (AKC) or not at all (British Kennel Club).

Regardless of the majority, most of us Labrador enthusiasts will appreciate the unique beauty of silver Labrador and their friendly temperament and character. The debate may well be ongoing, but plenty of solid silver Labradors still win the hearts of most of us dog lovers.
